Congradulations to the Bantam Steelers for their Championship win over Halton Hills 28 -19
2011 is only the Steelers 4th season, and they have been forging a name for ourselves as a dominate force in the football community in Ontario .In 2011 the Steelers Football Club had 4 out of their 5 teams go to the Ontario Championship this past weekend . Begining with the Tyke Steelers ( 6-8) year olds playing the first season and brining home a championship trophy .
The Junior Varsity Steel City Steelers entered this past weekend’s Championship Game as the undefeated top seed with a perfect 10-0 record. The Steelers breezed through the regular season with their only real test coming in week 2 with they faced the North Halton Crimson Tide and came away with a last second one point victory.
The Junior Varsity Steelers look poised to win it all in 2011 with convincing playoff victories over the Orangeville Outlaws and Brantford Bisons advancing the Steelers to the Championship Game. As fate would have it, Championship Day found them facing a pumped up and confident team from North Halton who were bent on revenging that one point loss to the Steelers in the regular season.
The Junior Varsity Championship Game was promoted as” the game” of the weekend and it was just that and more – with the score tied 20-20 at half time – both teams knew this game would come down to the wire. North Halton knotted the score at 41 after scoring a single point on a failed field goal attempt - with under a minute left the Steelers took control of the ball but with only seconds remaining turned the ball over to the Crimson Tide allowing them to score a point on a punt through the Steelers end zone with no time left on the clock – giving the Tide the win with a final score North Halton Crimson Tide 42 – Steel City Steelers 41 – It truly was “the game” of the weekend.
In only its second season the Varsity Steelers has made it to the Championship game both years , last year Varsity was 7-2 this year were 9-0 and looking at a perfect 10-0 season . But like last year lost in a tough offensive battle. 2010 loss was to Clarrington by a score of 6 -2 this years loss was 11- 3 for TNT our Steelers defense played stellar , the offence struggled and could not defend the pressure the tnt defense brought . we look forward to the challenge again next season.
The Steelers would like to thank all those volunteers who put in endless hours to make this season such a success without their hard work and perseverance the Steel City Steelers Football Club would not be able to achieve their goals and the goals of their athletes on and off the football field.
come visit the Steelers on Aug 26-27-28 at the Winona Peach Festival and see how you can save $$$$ on 2012 registration fees.
